Carlos Sapão is the heart and soul of CS Jiu Jitsu.

A bit of history:

Carlos was 6 years old when he began Jiu Jitsu in Rio De Janeiro- often referred to as the "Old School Era".

 

He spent every waking moment dedicated to training and studying the art. Carlos began competition at a young age, often fighting in both kid and adult divisions during the same event. A passion turned professional at age 16- continuing for more than a decade.

Having achieved countless medals and awards in competition, he felt a drive for more. He retired from professional competition just shy of 30 years old. Carlos's honed discipline had a new direction- preserving the integrity of the art through teaching and sharing his findings.

Opening his first academy in San Francisco, Carlos shared his knowledge with the community- including being instrumental in transforming the curriculum for the SF VA Police Department. 

​

After living in the traditional model of teaching for most of his life, Carlos saw a need that wasn't being addressed. He and his partner, Alicia, spent the next years studying the problem and coming up with a solution:

the CS Jiu Jitsu Mobile Academy.
